JFC Data Buoy Range

Data Buoy Platforms

Purpose-Built Platforms for Marine Monitoring

JFC Data Buoy Platforms provide a stable, durable, and highly adaptable base for a wide range of environmental and oceanographic monitoring projects. Built on the same proven architecture as our Gannet and Seagull Buoy ranges, each platform delivers dependable long-term performance in demanding marine environments.

With hull sizes from Ø1250mm to Ø3000mm, our platforms are engineered to support customer-supplied instrumentation, power systems, and telemetry equipment, offering the flexibility required for specialist monitoring programmes.

Built on Proven Buoy Architecture

Every Data Buoy Platform is manufactured using rotationally moulded polyethylene and mounted on a galvanised steel structure, delivering excellent buoyancy, durability, and impact resistance.

Hull options across the DB1250 to DB3000 range allow customers to match platform size and payload capacity to project requirements, from compact inshore deployments to large offshore installations.

The central daymark tower provides a secure weatherproof enclosure, providing access points for equipment integration, space for solar panel mounting, and elevated visibility for safe navigation.

Key Platform Features

IALA-Compliant Marking

Platforms are supplied with top marks and lanterns as per the IALA Maritime Buoyage System (MBS). Yellow special marks with a St. Andrew’s Cross are used for designating Ocean Data Acquisition systems.

Daymark Tower with Access

Each buoy is equipped with a daymark tower featuring built-in access doors and internal space for mounting and servicing customer-installed equipment.

Moon Pool Options

Moon pools are available from Ø180mm to Ø930mm, providing access beneath the buoy for mounting instrumentation such as ADCPs, multiparameter probes, or water quality sensors.

Solar Mounting Capability

We can supply platforms with or without solar and batteries. Daymark towers are designed to accommodate solar panels to support customer-supplied batteries and power systems. Mounting does not require any special structural modifications.

Cable Access Points

Integrated cable entry points can be created to provide safe routing from external sensors to internal equipment spaces, supporting a clean and secure installation during instrumentation fit out.

Designed for Customer-Supplied Instrumentation

JFC Data Buoy Platforms are supplied as complete flotation and structural systems, ready for integration with:

  1. Sensors and monitoring instruments
  2. Data loggers and telemetry units
  3. Battery banks and power regulators
  4. Solar panels and charging systems
  5. Third-party mounting frames and internal hardware

This approach gives operators full control over the electronics package, ensuring compatibility with their preferred technology providers and simplifying future servicing, upgrades, and remote support.

Your electronics partner installs and commissions all instrumentation, while the buoy platform provides the stable, secure foundation beneath it.

Applications

Our Data Buoy Platforms are used worldwide by research institutes, survey companies, universities, and industry operators for:

  1. Meteorological monitoring
  2. Environmental assessment
  3. Oceanographic and metocean data collection
  4. Coastal water quality studies
  5. Research and academic deployments

From short-term studies to long-duration, autonomous measurement campaigns, the range is designed to perform reliably in both nearshore and offshore environments.
